From Ang Malaya (Dec 12): President Aquino scheduled to check on FA-50
President Benigno S. Aquino III, before heading back to Manila today, is scheduled to meet Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) President and Chief Executive Officer Sung Yong-ha and other Republic of Korea (SoKor) Air Force official to inspect FA-50 fighter jets.
According to report, KAI will be presenting to President Aquino some capabilities of the said aircraft. Philippines already ordered twelve units of FA-50, delivery is set to start September 2015.
FA-50 was co-developed by KAI and U.S. defense firm Lockheed Martin. It is the most advance variant in T-50 family.
FA-50 can load up to 4.5 tons of weapons and has a wide-range of armament system. It has a 20 mm three-barrel gun that can fire at extremely high rate internally installed.
It can be fitted with AIM-9 Sidewinder, a short-range air-to-air missile; AGM-65, an air-to-surface missile designed for close-air support missions; cluster bombs and rocket launchers.
The Fighting Eagle is equipped with Multimode Airborne Fire Control Radar system designed to accomplish air-to-air and airstrike missions.
