Joint police and military authorities arrested here Thursday dawn a senior member of the Pentagon kidnap gang and al-Khobar extortion group following a week-long surveillance, police said.
In a report, Chief Supt. Lester Camba, police regional director for SOCCSKSARGEN region, said Said Giad, who carries a P175,000 bounty for his arrest, was cornered by policemen, military and village officials in Barangay Sampao, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

Camba said Giad was placed on surveillance by operatives of the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police Office, Isulan Municipal Police Office, and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) with the help of village officials.
Police record showed that Giad was a henchman of Tahir Alonto, founding chair of the Pentagon kidnap for ransom gang that gained notoriety in the late 1990s after victimizing Chinese nationals working for an irrigation dam in
Alonto and his men were also linked to several bombing attacks against Weena Bus Company and Yellow Bus Company for failure to pay revolutionary tax.
Giad is now detained at Isulan police detention cell.
