Army soldier shot dead inside disco bar in Zamboanga province

From the Mindanao Examiner BlogSpot site (Aug 1): Army soldier shot dead inside disco bar in Zamboanga province

An unidentified gunman shot dead a government soldier inside a disco bar in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Norte, police said Friday.

Police said Corporal Medel Tabbada was shot at close range in the face and chest at around 3 in the morning inside the Freeway Disco Bar in the village of Laroche in Sindangan town.

It was unknown whether the 35-year old soldier was on a break or alone in the bar when the gunman attacked him. The assailant also took the soldier’s hand gun before escaping alone on a motorbike. It was not immediately known why Tabbada was carrying a weapon inside the bar which is strictly prohibited by the military.

Police said Tabbada, a native of Koronadal City in North Cotabato province, was the detachment commander of the army’s Special Forces in the village of Bucana in Sindangan town.

Tabbada’s body was handed over to his unit’s superior Lt. Syrill Fervez.
