Newly-appointed Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang vowed to repair and upgrade barracks and other facilities damaged by typhoons and other natural calamities.

"It will be repaired and upgraded as soon as possible," he added.

He said that having modernized, habitable and usable soldiers' facilities will be one of his priorities as AFP chief.

Catapang was appointed as the 45th AFP chief-of-staff last Friday replacing Gen. Emmanuel Bautista who retired after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.
