Members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) attacked again, this time a banana plantation in the remote barangay of Dungos, Tulunan, North Cotabato 10 a.m. Sunday.

Aside from almost three hours of exchanging gunfire with militia and guards of the Delinanas Banana Plantation, the armed group also burned three backhoes, two diesel engine trucks, and one boom spray truck, said North Cotabato police spokesman Senior Inspector Jojit Nicolas.

One BIFF member was killed while an AK-47 was recovered from the fatality, Nicolas added.

Authorities in the area continue to be on high alert.

In a related development, BIFF fired at militia men escorting an unknown VIP in the area of President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat last night.

No one was injured in the incident.

BIFF spokesman Abu Misrie Mama admitted that his group was behind the incidents.

He said this was their response to the perceived indifference of the authorities to the kidnapping of two farmers in Datu Unsay in Maguindanao last July 3.

Mama threatened to continue with their actions until the father and son Mohamad and Mihad Abdulakrim are released.

The military, for its part, has denied any involvement in the disappearance of the two.

According to 6th ID spokesman Col. Dickson Hermoso, the military is actually helping look for the missing farmers.
