CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan De Oro City -- Government troopers have recovered four AK 47 rifles after a 20-minute clashed with rebels of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Surigao on Sunday, the military said on Monday.

Maj. Christian Uy, spokesperson of the army’s 4th Infantry Division here, said that troopers of the army’s 30th Infantry Battalion encountered about 20 NPA rebels in the Bacuag, Surigao Del Norte Sunday morning.

Uy said that troopers also recovered two hand grenades, one rifle grenade, one handheld radio, six bandoliers for AK 47, 15 magazines with 30 rounds of ammunition each, four improvised explosive device and six backpacks containing personal belongings,

Last week, the army’s 30th IB also killed three rebels in an encounter in Barangay Tagbuyawan in Mainit, Surigao Del Norte. The troops also recovered one AK-47, one M653 and one M14, Uy added.
