An improvised explosive device was found planted in front of a military outpost in the town of Datu Piang, Maguindanao Wednesday night and was successfully disarmed, authorities said.

The IED, crafted from an 81mm mortar shell and set to be triggered with a cell phone, is believed to have targeted troops of the 6th Infantry Division’s Task Forcec Reyna Regente, Datu Piang chief of police, Inspector Roldan Kundong, said.

The bomb was believed planted by the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, a faction that broke away from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which has signed a peace pact with the government.
