From InterAksyon (Mar 21): Masbate town official escapes NPA ambush
The administrative officer of the municipality of Batuan in Masbate cheated death Wednesday when New People's Army guerrillas detonated an improvised explosive device and fired at him as he passed by.
Police said Alfred Yuson, 44, was riding his motorcycle to work when the ambush happened on the road between Barangays Canvanez and Nasanding around 1:30 p.m.
Yuson managed to flee the area unscathed and reached the town’s police station.
Police and military teams that rushed to the area found a large hole in the ground caused by the explosion, detonating cord and empty M16 shells.
Yuson has reportedly long been threatened by the rebels, who suspect him of being a government informer, charges he has denied.
