Troopers from the Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion successfully repelled an attack by lawless elements in
Major Ray Tiongson, 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson, said the government security forces are conducting pursuit operations against the 15 New People's Army (NPA) members whom they earlier encountered in Barangay Bahian at around 6:45 a.m.
The five-minute firefight resulted in the recovery of one KG-9 submachine gun with fully loaded magazine and personal belongings.
Tiongson said that government forces sustained no casualties in the firefight, while the lawless band suffered an undetermined number of wounded and killed during their retreat.
