The Zamboanga Del Sur-based 1st Infantry Division is now conducting hot pursuit operations against the armed group who shot and killed on Tuesday four men, two of them militiamen, in the boundaries of Barangays Bohe Baka and Bohe Libung, Tipo-Tipo town, Basilan in what authorities believed to be "rido" related violence.
Capt. Jefferson Mamauag, the unit's spokesperson, said the incident transpired around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday.
He identified the slain militiamen as Umbongan Gungkal, and Burak Usahon and the two civilians fatalities as Uwahid Upisyalin and Havilim Upisyalin.
Also wounded in the encounter was Abdila Toria, who is now undergoing treatment at the
Mamauag said that the victims were on their way to Sitio Manabuli, Barangay Bohe Tambak, Tipo-Tipo after visiting their relatives at Barangay Bohe Libung when ambushed by still unidentified armed men believe to be members of a rival clan with a grudge against them.
All four victims suffered multiple gunshots wounds and were killed on the spot.
Mamauag stated that troopers from the 18th Infantry Batttalion, a field unit of the 1st Infantry Division, immediately responded and succeeded in driving away the gunmen and in the process saved the badly wounded Toria.
Hot pursuit operations are still ongoing.
