Two senior military commanders are set to take on their new positions this week in the latest round of designations in the Armed Forces of the Philippines as a result of the impending retirement of another senior commander.
Lt. Gen. Roy Deveraturda, an Air Force officer, is scheduled to assume his new post as commander of the Armed Forces Western Command, replacing Maj. Gen. Rustico Guerrero.
Deveraturda, currently the commander of the Armed Forces Central Command, will reportedly assume his new position on November 8, vice Guerrero, who will take on his new assignment as commander of the Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command.
Guerrero, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1981, will assume his new position on November 9, replacing Lt. Gen. Rey Ardo, who will be retiring this month.
Ardo is a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1980.
Armed Forces Spokesman Brig. Gen. Domingo Tutaan refused to confirm the impending new designations.
“We are awaiting for the issuance of the order prior to the announcement,” he said.
However, sources said the change and turnover of commands have been scheduled on November 8 for Guerrero and Deveraturda, and for Ardo and Guerrero on November 9.
“Actually, the change of commands have been scheduled,” said one of the sources.
The source, however, said the military leadership is still deliberating on who would replace Deveraturda as commander of the Central Command.
However, the strongest candidate is reportedly Brig. Gen. John Bonafos, the current commander of the Special Forces Command.
Bonafos is a member of PMA Class of 1982.
