From InterAksyon (Oct 25): Army major tagged in Jonas Burgos disappearance posts bail
The Army officer accused of leading the team of agents who abducted activist-farmer Jonas Burgos in 2007 posted bail at the Quezon regional trial court on Thursday.
Major Harry Baliaga, who is charged for violating Article 124 of the Revised Penal Code, or arbitrary detention, was accompanied by his lawyer when he posted bail of P40,000 before QC RTC Branch 216.
Burgos was seized as he ate at the Ever Gotesco mall along Commonweath Avenue in Quezon City on April 28, 2007.
He has not been seen since.
Jonas is the third child of the late world press freedom icon Jose G. Burgos Jr., who trailblazed in the so-called "Mosquito Press" or alternative media that covered critically the Marcos dictatorship.
The elder Burgos was jailed by President Marcos' military in December 1982 after a raid on his newspapers offices, which the Supreme Court struck down as unconstitutional two years later.
