From the Bicol Today (Oct 25): 1 rebel dead, 1 soldier wounded in CamNorte encounter
A still unidentified New People’s Army rebel was killed and an Army soldier was wounded in an encounter between communist guerrillas and government troopers at about 4:30 a.m. Friday in Sitio Purok 3, Barangay Salvacion, Sta. Elena, Camarines Norte.
Captain Mardjories Paimela P. Panesa, chief of the 9th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office, said Philippine Army troopers from the 49th Infantry Battalion were on a security patrol operation when they encountered seven rebels who were allegedly collecting revolutionary tax.
The 20-minute encounter resulted in the death of the rebel and the wounding of Pfc. Edcil Bagaan who was immediately airlifted by a helicopter to the AFP Medical Center in V. Luna Hospital in Manila.
Government troopers are still in hot pursuit of the fleeing rebels who ran towards the direction of the mountainous area of Capalonga town.
The police have already sent scene-of-the crime operatives to the encounter site for necessary investigation.
