The medical and dental team of the Army’s 302nd Brigade and 79th Infantry Battalion in Negros Oriental, together with the reservists from the 703rd and 704th Community Defense Centers and volunteer nurses participated in the Medical and Dental Civic Action Program (MEDCAP) spearheaded by the local government of Siquijor, a media said Capt. Cresencio Gargar, the brigade’s public information officer in a media release Thursday.

Siquijor town, the capital of Siquijor province, celebrated its 41st Araw Ng Bayan 2013 with the theme: “Siquijor Atong Lungsod, Atong Panggaon”.

The Philippine Army contingents and civilian volunteers were ferried from Tandayag Port, Amlan in Negros Oriental to Siquijor and vice versa via a Philippine Navy vessel.

Other organizations involved in the MEDCAP were line agencies, the Siquijor Municipal Health Unit, civil society organizations and civilian volunteers.

Services offered during the MEDCAP, which also benefited residents from adjacent municipalities, included medical consultation and dental services, circumcision, eye examination, blood examination and blood pressure examination.

Reservists from the 703rd and 704th CDC also offered free haircut and massage.

Brig. Gen. Francisco Patrimonio, 302nd Brigade Commander, was quoted as saying the involvement of different stakeholders consistent with the spirit of “Bayanihan” to address the health concerns of the Siquijodnons was a manifestation of commitment and dedication by peace loving citizens in order to serve the needy Filipino people.

“The military’s participation in the MEDCAP in partnership with various stakeholders was part of our continuing efforts in delivering basic health services to the less privileged residents in the brigade’s area of responsibility” said Patrimonio.
