Grounded gunboat pulled clear - PN

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 17): Grounded gunboat pulled clear - PN

The Philippine Navy (PN) announced that the BRP Liberato Picar (PG-377), the gunboat that ran aground off Casiguran, Aurora during the height of Typhoon "Labuyo" Monday, was pulled clear past midnight Friday.

"PG-377 was safely extracted past midnight during the highest tide," Navy spokesperson Lt. Cmdr. Gregory Fabic said, adding that the ship is now anchored off Casiguran Bay.

"It is near the port where Navy divers will check her hull for cracks, leaks and other damages," Fabic stressed.

The 78-foot gunboat was buffeted by strong winds and big waves and ran aground at Barangay Dipacong in Casiguran Monday.

Fabic earlier said that the BRP Liberato Picar only sustained light damage and will be serviceable again.
