Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Voltaire T. Gazmin on Wednesday vehemently denied reports that he is asking local government officials, particularly governors, for donations or prizes for sport competitions being held in the military.
"I am not in the habit of asking for donations," Gazmin said in Filipino.
He added that he has already ordered the tracing of the mobile phone numbers used in this scam.
"I think (owners of the cellphone numbers) are just using my name in a bid to gather more donations," Gazmin stressed.
The DND chief said that he learned of this scam when two governors, one from the North and the other from the South, personally called him and asked if he was indeed asking for appliances which will be reportedly given to the winners of a military sports fest.
