From the Philippine Information Agency (May 3): 82nd Infantry Battalion highlights 4th founding anniversary

The 82nd Infantry (Bantay Laya) Battalion, 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division, Philippine Army celebrates its 4th Battalion Founding Anniversary Friday at Camp Monteclaro, Brgy Igtuba, Miag-ao, Iloilo.

The 82nd IB which was formally activated in June 18, 2009 at Camp Macario V. Peralta, Jamindan, Capiz, in the presence of then Commanding General of the Philippine Army, Lt. Gen. Delfin Bangit, was composed of 23 officers and 349 enlisted personnel and charged of supporting the internal security operation (ISO) efforts in Panay, safeguarding the freedom of its citizens from the threats of insurgency.

It was organized using the 3rd Division Reconnaissance Companies and the Headquarters Service Battalion of the Command. Its first Battalion Commander was Lt. Col. George Joel N. Lalaquil. They chose the name "Bantay Laya" as their name and has operational control over the province of Antique and southern Iloilo.

From its infancy, it has metamorphosed into a unit to be reckoned with. Now headed by the 4th Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Aldwine I. Almase INF (GSC) PA, it had come up with numerous peace and development programs and initiatives in Antique and southern Iloilo which benefited the people and communities especially in far flung areas.

It is proud of being partly responsible for bringing back peace and order in the towns of San Remigio and Sibalom towns here and declaring the province of Antique as Manageable Conflict-affected and development/investment ready area.

In an interview with Lt. Col Almase, he said "that our operational framework not only promotes human security but also provides opportunity for the peaceful resolution of conflict under the ambit of IPSP Bayanihan."

A day long activities is lined-up today to mark its 4th anniversary with sportsfest, thanksgiving mass, anniversary program, distribution of wheelchairs and socials among others. Highlight of which is the awarding of certificates to 11 individual awardees, 10 group awardees for their valuable support extended to the battalion and their Best Best for 2013 (Best Platoon Sergeant, Best Squad Leader, Best Enlisted Personnel).
