Police: P10-M ransom demand unconfirmed

From the Sun Star-Zamboanga (Apr 12): Police: P10-M ransom demand unconfirmed

REPORTS of a ransom demand being offered in exchange for the release of a trader and her live-in partner remains unconfirmed, said Zamboanga City police officer-in-charge Edwin de Ocampo on Friday.

Earlier reports said the kidnappers are demanding for a P10-million ransom in exchange for the release of Nancy Gonato, 38, and Ronnie Sandagon, 50.

Gonato and Sandagon were seized around 12:20 a.m. Sunday while they were asleep at the Ocean World Marine Products’ buying station at Taha wharf in Barangay Baliwasan, Zamboanga City.
Gonato owns the Ocean World Marine Products, while Sandagon is a councilor in the municipality of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The report quoted Sandagon’s daughter who said that the kidnappers called them Monday afternoon and demanded P10-million ransom, which the police doubt its veracity.

“It (ransom demand) is unconfirmed. Sila lang ang nagsasabi,” De Ocampo added.

De Ocampo said they have coordinated with the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Command to track down the whereabouts of the victims, as well as that of the suspects.
