Engaged government troops in Brgy Libudon, Mabini were able to discover another 4 landmines and assorted explosives, and assorted ammunitions 6 A.M. of 05 April 2013 from NPA encampment at Sitio Darot, Brgy Libudon, Mabini. At 7:30 A.M. same day, one section of 71st IB led by 1st Lt Braza responded to a report on the installation of landmine detonating wire.
The government troops were able to clear about 100-mtr detonating cord and detonating assembly from the main supply route (MSR) at Brgy Panibasan, Maco, CVP.
“As of this report, EOD teams were already inserted in the area for the proper disposal of the explosives,” Col Angelito de Leon said.
After the encounter at Brgy Anitapan and Brgy Libudon both in Mabini, CVP, on 03 April 2003, the government troops also recovered 3 landmines. Unfortunately, other series of explosion killed 2 soldiers and wounding 2 others.
According to Honey May Suazo on her message alert, certain Earl Jhon Antivo from the same town suffered wounds from shrapnel. Antivo might have also been a victim of one of the landmine explosions initiated by the NPAs.
To note, there were already 7 landmine explosions initiated by the NPA to include the incident killing 1 and wounding 10 government troops coming from Relief and Rehabilitation Operations in Davao Oriental.
“The continuous use of landmines by the lawless armed group – NPA shows that the NPAs are unmindful about the safety of the civilians. Their terroristic strategy shows their disregard for human rights and deliberate violation of the Government and CPP-NPA-NDF’s Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL). Part III, Art II, Section 15 of that agreement states that use landmines is strictly prohibited,” de Leon said.
