MILF: Marine commander threatens to ‘disarm’ MILF forces in Sulu

Posted to the MILF Website (Mar 5): Marine commander threatens to ‘disarm’ MILF forces in Sulu

A Marine commander threatened to disarm MILF forces who attended a forum on the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB) at Barangay Angilan, Omar Municipality last February 28.

The forum was organized by Cesar Alil, a ranking provincial officer of the MILF in Sulu, and it was fully coordinated with the MILF Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH). The government CCCH was also informed of the affair.

Colonel Jonathan Gabor, who escorted Ferhana Mohammad, Mayor of Omar Municipality, attempted to disrupt the forum by making provocative statements including threatening to disarm the MILF forces who numbered about 500.

The Marines numbered only about 100.

Gabor said that he would not have second thought in disarming the MILF if they continue to wear uniforms and bear arms inside their camp in said village.

The provocative statement of the Marine commander elicited quick response from one of the MILF political officers therein, warning him never to do such lest there would be bloodshed. At this point, tension ensued whereby the MILF forces loaded and unlocked the safety of their firearms while the sound of “Allah is great” was roaring loudly that prompted the military to get out of camp immediately.

Several political officers from the Central Committee were sent to Sulu to explain the FAB on the people of the island province.

On the same day, when the MILF forces passed by the military checkpoint in Luuk, Sulu, the same Marine commander slapped a certain Badad Mukiram for wearing T-shirt with marking “MILF Police Force”.

Gabor also said the MILF has no right to recruit, to wear uniforms and to bring firearms even inside the MILF camp or controlled area.

Several civilians are now protesting the stay of Gabor in Sulu because he is destroying the primacy of peace in the province of Sulu.

A letter of complaint is now lodged with the government CCCH through the MILF CCCH.

Up to this writing tension is still high in the area and the MILF forces are massing their troops to protect their camp.
