Bus driver injured, passengers safe in Zambo Norte ambush

From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 27): Bus driver injured, passengers safe in Zambo Norte ambush

A bus driver was injured while his passengers escaped unscathed in an ambush in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, a police official said Wednesday.

Injured was Jimmy Bugwat, 44, the driver of the Alba Bus Liner that plies the Siocon-Ipil route and vice-versa, according to Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) spokesman Chief Insp. Ariel Huesca.

Huesca said Bugwat was hit in the left thigh and leg when an unidentified suspect ambushed Bugwat's bus around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday along Barangay Manaol, Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte.

The bus was en route to Ipil, the capital of Zamboanga Sibugay province, when the ambush took place, Huesca said.

He said policemen, upon receipt of report, immediately rushed to the ambush site but the suspect was already gone.

He said Bugwat’s passengers were transferred to another bus and were “allowed to proceed to their destination after the responding team cleared the area” while the driver was rushed to the hospital.

The responding policemen have recovered a magazine with seven live ammunition, three empty shells and two slugs of caliber .45 pistol, he said.
