Full military might to be used vs. NPAs in La Castellana, Negros Occidental ambush

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 29): Full military might to be used vs. NPAs in La Castellana, Negros Occidental ambush

The full might of the military will be employed to bring to justice the New People's Army fighters responsible for the ambush in La Castella town, Negros Occidental which left nine people dead Sunday, a ranking military official said Tuesday.

Maj Gen. Jose Mabanta, 3rd Infantry Division commander, said they have now deployed Scout Ranger units and helicopter gunships in the pursuit operations. "They (NPA) cannot escape and they will ultimately have to face the judgement of the people," he added. Mabanta made this statement as some NPA groups claimed the attack was not sanctioned by their headquarters.

"They cannot escape liability, what they are saying is that it was not sanctioned by higher headquarters, however it's still their responsibility," he added. Mabanta said pursuit operations will be concentrated on the boundaries of Negros Oriental and Occidental. The areas are remote and heavily-wooded.
