From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 29): BCDA says 'masterplan' of military
camps to be completed in 2013
In line with its efforts to develop the estimated 130,000 square hectares of
idle military land nationwide, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority
announced it will complete its development "masterplan" of all military camps to
expedite the work.
Atty. Arnel Paciano Casanova, BCDA president, said this step will determine
which part will be developed or retained for military use.
This includes determining whether the land eyed for development will be used
for agricultural or commercial use.
Casanova added the "masterplan" will also determined the valuation of the
land which be leased or sold.
The BCDA chief said that camps being subjected to this includes Armed Forces
(AFP) general headquarters in Camp Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City and the
Bonifacio Naval Station in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.
"We are already being asked to look at camp Aguinaldo, this is still
exploratory camp Aguinaldo, and the Bonifacio Naval Station in Fort Bonifacio,"
he added.
The AFP around 20 military bases and camps scattered nationwide.
The BCDA remitted around P2 billion to the national government last year of
which a significant portion went to the AFP Modernization Fund.
It is expected to remit the same amount this 2013.
