BCDA says 'masterplan' of military camps to be completed in 2013

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 29): BCDA says 'masterplan' of military camps to be completed in 2013

In line with its efforts to develop the estimated 130,000 square hectares of idle military land nationwide, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority announced it will complete its development "masterplan" of all military camps to expedite the work.

Atty. Arnel Paciano Casanova, BCDA president, said this step will determine which part will be developed or retained for military use. This includes determining whether the land eyed for development will be used for agricultural or commercial use.  Casanova added the "masterplan" will also determined the valuation of the land which be leased or sold.

The BCDA chief said that camps being subjected to this includes Armed Forces (AFP) general headquarters in Camp Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City and the Bonifacio Naval Station in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.  "We are already being asked to look at camp Aguinaldo, this is still exploratory camp Aguinaldo, and the Bonifacio Naval Station in Fort Bonifacio," he added. The AFP around 20 military bases and camps scattered nationwide.

The BCDA remitted around P2 billion to the national government last year of which a significant portion went to the AFP Modernization Fund. It is expected to remit the same amount this 2013.
