From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 29): 5 hurt in bus bombing in Sultan Kudarat

A powerful improvised explosive device went off inside a traveling bus here that left five persons wounded, authorities said Saturday. Authorities believe the bomb attack was carried out by extortion gangs preying on bus firms during the Christmas holidays. Sr. Supt. Rolen Balquin, Sultan Kudarat police provincial director, said the blast happened at 6 p.m. during the Holiday rush near Isulan’s welcome rotunda. Balquin said the Husky bus, loaded with holiday vacationers, was heading toward Gen. Santos City from Cotabato City. Balquin said the identities of the victims were not not immediately available. Mayor Diosdado Pallasigue of Isulan said another bus of Yellow Bus Company which was immediately following the Husky bus was also damaged.
