From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 25): Diverse crew, the real strength of the
US Navy
USS George Washington (CVN-73) commander Capt. Greg "Fence" Fenton on Thursday
said that the real strength of the US Navy is its ability to let diverse groups
of people from different nationalities to work together in achieving a common
goal.
He added that his ship's company of 5,500 men and women, of which 800 are
Filipino, best exemplifies this trend.
Fenton stressed that despite their differences in heritage, the crew was able
to work and cooperate with each other excellently, making the ship's task much
easier and safer.
"We have a longstanding history of partnership with the Philippines dating
back to the Spanish-American War, and we are always appreciative of the
opportunity to be able to work with one of our regional partners," he added.
The USS George Washington is on a five-day visit to the Philippines.
It arrived in Manila last Oct. 24 and it will leave with its strike group on
Oct. 29...
