LUCENA CITY — At least eight alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered with some of their firearms at the police headquarters in Taytay, Rizal, police reported Saturday, May 6.

The Region 4A police identified the rebel returnees as Josie Alcantara, Teresita Alcantara, Marlyn Cuerbo, Lolita Macalipay, Emily Molina, Teresita Timbreza, Sonia Virrey, and Roberto Espinosa.

Police did not provide further details about the former communist guerrillas except that they used to operate in Aurora province.

The alleged former rebels turned over three M14 rifles, one carbine rifle, grenades, magazines, and ammunition.

The government authorities are preparing the necessary assistance for the former rebels in their reintegration protocols under the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip).

A rebel returnee can avail himself of firearm remuneration and housing, medical care, loans, and legal assistance, among other forms of help from the government.
