FORMER REBEL STORY: Alias Yassi, who was recruited by the CPP-NPA as a minor was finally able to celebrate her birthday peacefully with her family inside the headquarters of the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry “Dependable” Battalion in Impasugong, Bukidnon on October 17, 2021.She recalls that they were never given the chance to celebrate such special occasions when they were still with the armed movement. Her mother even recounts that in 2020, they only had grilled mice and veggies to celebrate the occasion. The family finally decided to surrender on October 1, 2021, just in time for Yassi’s 17th birthday.
Having been able to celebrate as a family brought them so much joy. They also hope that the Philippine Army will be able to save more families from the exploitation of the communist terrorist group.
