Gunmen raid Cotabato village

From the Mindanao Examiner (Jan 19, 2023): Gunmen raid Cotabato village

COTABATO CITY – Gunmen raided a village in southern Philippines and killed two people and injured at least five others before escaping under cover of darkness.

Most of the victims are members of the former rebel group called Moro National Liberation Front, whose leaders signed a peace accord with the government in 1996. It was unclear whether Wednesday’s attack in Cotabato City targeted the Pangilan family.

The assault in Tamontaka village had killed the 30-year old Pacundo Pangilan and Razul Abdullah, 34; and all members of the MNLF. The wounded also belong to the same clan in the village mostly inhabited by MNLF members.

It was unknown if the raid was connected to a feud or whether the attackers were from rival Moro Islamic Liberation Front, whose leaders and members broke away with the MNLF.

Police have launched an investigation into the attack. It was unclear how the gunmen, estimated over a dozen, managed to enter and flee the village undetected by the police and military.

Security officials have not issued any statement or report of the daring attack. (Mindanao Examiner)
