From Kalinaw News (Jul 11, 2022): Ex-NPA surrenders in Aurora, yield firearms
BALER, Aurora-A 39-year-old fighter of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) of New People’s Army (NPA) who has voluntarily surrendered last September 2, 2021 personally turned over his firearm in the Philippine Army’s 91st Infantry “Sinagtala” Battalion headquarter in this capital town of Aurora on Saturday, July 09, 2022.
Lt. Col. Julito B. Recto, Jr., Commanding Officer of 91st IB identified the surrenderer as alias “Roa”, former vice commanding officer of Provincial Yunit Guerilla (PYG) of Aurora provincial committee of the CTG operating in this province.
Recto said on Sunday, that Ka Roa turned over a defaced serial number of Rifle M653 he used in his over one decade of armed struggle against government forces.
He added that Ka Roa decided to formally turned over his firearm because he is one of the living witnessed of the sincerity of the government so that ex-rebel like him will live peacefully.
On the other hand, Ka Roa said he is very thankful to the 91st IB and other government agencies for the continues assistance and that is a blessing to those who are now willing to change for the better.
“They are sincere to help ex-rebels like me to live a good life while returning to mainstream society. I am back in the mainstream and will no longer worry about my security,” he said.
Back to Recto, he urged the remaining dismantled Komiteng Larangang Guerrilla Sierra Madre (KLG-SM) of the CTG to peacefully surrender and lay down their arms as numerous benefits and programs await in their desire to live normally.
“The troops of 91st IB is here to assist and help you as you surrender. Lay down your arms. We are open for peace. There is hope for every rebel who desires to surrender, to change and to live a normal life,” Recto said.
