From Kalinaw News (May 30, 2022): One communist terrorist dead in a clash with gov’t troops in Ifugao

Camp Aquino, Tarlac City –One member of the communist terrorist group died during an armed encounter with the troops of the 54th Infantry Battalion who are conducting pursuit operations in the vicinity of Sitio Binangyuyaw, Brgy Namal, Asipulo, Ifugao in the afternoon of May 29, 2022.

According to Commander of Northern Luzon Command, Lt. Gen. Ernesto Torres Jr, “The troops were fired upon by more or less 15 armed men upon being seen in the area to which they’ve reacted in order to preempt further danger that the CTGs may cause in the nearby communities.”

In a separate statement Brig. Gen. Krishnamurti Mortela, Commander of Joint Task Group Defender said that, “The fleeing Communist terrorist left one M16A2 rifle which was recovered by the troops on ground zero.”

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Andrew Costelo, Commander of Joint Task Force Kaugnay lauded the involved troops’ selfless service and commitment to their duties which manifest in the “series of accomplishments’’ they are achieving.

Maj. Gen. Costelo also said that, “The military welcomes the peaceful surrender of those who are willing to abandon armed struggle and become productive citizens of our country.”

Likewise, Lt. Gen. Torres expressed his elation upon the headways that the unit has been making in terms of ensuring the decimation of communist terrorist groups in their area of operations.

The NoLCom Commander also added that the defenders of the North adhere to the International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights which protect and value human life even amidst armed conflict, he said “We will see to it that our people will always be protected, we only want peace and that is the end goal for us. We encourage our brothers and sisters who are still under the deception of the CTGs to come back to the fold of the law and surrender while you still have the chance because it will only be a matter of time before the long arms of the law will reach you.”

It can be recalled that the 54IB troopers rescued the wounded leader of the weakened guerilla front-AMPIS who was abandoned by his comrades after a gunfight with the military on May 26, 2022, at Sitio Belbel, Brgy. Namal, Asipulo, Ifugao.
