Brgy Bato, Sagay City, NegOcc — The Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry (Masaligan) Battalion, 3ID, PA joins the Peace Covenant Signing in Toboso on February 1, 2022.

The event started with a Holy Mass at St. Anthony de Padua Parish Church followed by the signing of peace covenant by the local candidates from different political parties and heads of cognizant government agencies as witnesses.

In attendance during the activity were Hon. Richard Jaojoco, incumbent Municipal Mayor; Rev. Fr. Rannie Veriña, Parish Priest; PLTC Jay Malong, 1st NOPMFC; PCPT Paul Kenneth Magan, COP Toboso MPS; Lieutenant Colonel J-jay Javines, Commanding Officer of 79IB; Ms. Ma. Aprille Perater, Election Officer III; Mayoral candidates Evello Valencia Jr. of the National People’s Coalition (NPC) – Toboso and Mrs. Madonna Marañon-Jaojoco of PDP Laban-Toboso together with their respective candidates for vice mayor and councilor positions.

In his message Lt. Col. Javines urged the candidates to genuinely commit and faithfully abide themselves with the tenets of the covenant for a safe, accurate, fair and free National and Local Elections come 09 May 2022.

“There is one thing I would like to request from all of you, please do not engage and solicit the support of any armed group particularly the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG). As it is during the elections that they are able to a mass huge amount of resources from their Permit to Win and Permit to Campaign schemes. Let us allow our people to cast their votes freely, void of fear nor intimidation. Let us hear their voice in this elections,” said Lt.Col. Javines.

On January 30 and 31, local candidates in the municipalities of Calatrava and EB Magalona also reaffirmed their pledge for a peaceful, fair, and honest elections.

A similar activity is set to be conducted on February 3 in the municipality of Murcia, Negros Occidental while other remaining cities and municipalities have yet to schedule the conduct of similar undertaking.
