1 CAFGU killed in Calinog clash

From Palawan News (Oct 14, 2021): 1 CAFGU killed in Calinog clash (By Ruby Silubrico)

A member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) was killed in Wednesday’s clash against the New People’s Army (NPA) in Barangay Masaroy, Calinog town.

Tipsters alerted the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ 12th Infantry Battalion and CAFGU about the NPA’s presence around 8 a.m., said Army Captain Eric Faller, civil military officer.

The government troops indeed encountered five armed men. A gun battle ensued.

“The rebels were planning to burn heavy equipment of contractors of farm-to-market roads because the latter refused to give money,” Faller said. “This manifests that the rebels are too weak to stage a big attack.”

On Sept. 24, a CAFGU was killed while two others were wounded when attacked by communist rebels in Barangay Igbucagay, Hamtic, Antique. The three were fetching water in a nearby well when ten armed men shot them.

The 3rd Infantry Division said these incidents were the same with what happened to Corporal Frederic Villasis who was abducted and killed by rebels in Tapaz, Capiz on Aug. 11.
