Magpet, North Cotabato – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office (FO) XII headed by Director Restituto B Macuto, Regional Director, DSWD FO XII, in partnership with Provincial Local Government Unit – North Cotabato; Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) – North Cotabato, 1002nd Infantry (Bagwis) Brigade, 39th Infantry (Smash ‘Em) Battalion and 72nd Infantry (Gabay) Battalion, distributed financial assistance to sixty-three (63) Former Rebels (FRs) at Provincial Gymnasium, Brgy Amas, Kidapawan City, on September 15, 2021.
The said financial assistance is part of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the government to the former members of the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) who chose to return to the folds of the law and live normally with their loved ones.
Present also during the activity were: Hon Nancy A Catamco, Governor, Province of North Cotabato, represented by Mr Efren Piñol, Provincial Administrator; Director Ali B Abdullah, Provincial Director, DILG, represented by Ms Vita Gumahad, DILG Project Officer 1; Ms Jocelyn G Maceda, PSWD Officer; Police Colonel Henry Villar, PNP Provincial Director, represented by Police Lieutenant Colonel Bernard Tayong, Deputy Provincial Director for Admin; Brigadier General Potenciano C Camba, Commander, 1002nd Brigade; Lieutenant Colonel Ezra L Balagtey, Commanding Officer, 39IB; Major Ferdinand L Mopal, CMO Officer, 1002nd Brigade; Major Eliseo L Marcolino Jr, Executive Officer, 72IB; Second Lieutenant Ailene Marrie J Loria, CMO Officer; officers and enlisted personnel of 1002nd Brigade, 39IB and 72IB.
Sixty-three (63) former rebels received cash assistance worth five thousand pesos (PhP5,000.00) each. A total of three hundred fifteen thousand pesos (PhP315,000.00) were distributed to the FRs of the Province of North Cotabato. Aside from the cash, family food packs were also distributed to all of them.
Mr Piñol in his message, “Our Honorable Governor Nancy Catamco is very grateful that you responded to the efforts of the government in ending local communist armed conflict. The Provincial Government of North Cotabato will do its best in guiding you in this new journey of your lives.”
“This activity is one of the many plans of the government for you to start a new life with your respective family. You are the living testimony that the implementation of EO 70 of President Rodrigo Duterte is very effective,” said Director Macuto.
In response, Brigadier General Camba expressed his gratitude for the support of partners LGU and DSWD to the former rebels. He encouraged the FRs to help their former comrades who were deceived and became miserable victims of the communist terrorist group to peacefully lay down their arms and return to their families. The government is sincere in ending this decades-long insurgency because it hampered and continuously disrupting all our development agenda. With the convergence amongst the government agencies and cooperation of the citizenry, ending the local communist armed conflict is achievable before President Duterte ends his term by 30 June 2022.
