SAGAY CITY, Negros Occidental — The Philippine Army’s 79th Infantry “Masaligan” Battalion conducted a Community Awareness on CTG Extortion Activities on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Barangay Balintawak, Escalante City, Negros Occidental. This one-day activity was attended by a total of 33 victims of Communist Terrorist Group’s (CTGs) exploitation.

The said activity was done in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Escalante, Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (NOCPPO), 65th Special Action Company, and 6SAB PNP-SAF. It was aimed to continually safeguard the people from CTG’s exploitation, to motivate them to be productive, responsible, well-informed members of society as well as to be partners in addressing the insurgency issues in the province of Negros Occidental.

The Guest lecturers during the activity were Atty. Charo Tupaz-Fajardo, Legal Officer of Escalante City; Ms. Sharon Cadigal, City Local Government Operations Officer; Patrolman Kenneth Garringo of 6SAB, PNP-SAF; and Police Captain Ceasar Pagapong Jr., Legal Officer of NOCPPO.

Among the topics discussed were Insurgency Awareness, Executive Order 70, Salient Provisions of Republic Act No. 11479 or the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, Anti Money Laundering Act (AMLA), and Retooled Community Support Program.

In his message, Mayor Melecio Yap challenged his constituents to reject and stop giving support to the CNTs and its allied organizations so that peace and progress may continue to flourish in the city.

The commanding officer of the 79IB, Lieutenant Colonel J-jay T Javines elaborated that this initiative is a part of the implementation of Executive Order No. 70 which is to counter the CTG’s recruitment and extortion activities in the City. In his speech he said, “We will continue to do our tasks and joint endeavors inspired by the spirit of “Bayanihan” under EO 70 or the Whole-of-Nation approach in ending local communist armed conflict. I encourage everyone to take their fair share of responsibility in resolving insurgency. Every sector of our society plays a vital role in this effort.”

The activity was culminated with a Pledge of Commitment by the attendees to stop extending any assistance to the communist terrorists and reaffirmed their full support to the programs of the government to resolve and eradicate insurgency problems in Northern Negros.
