Maco, Davao de Oro – Brigadier General Jesus P Durante III Philippine Army takes post as the new commander of the 1001st Infantry (Pag-Asa) Brigade, 10th Infantry (Agila) Division in a formal ceremony held at the Brigade Headquarters on Monday, August 23, 2021.

Brigadier General Durante took over as the 14th commander of the said Army unit operating in Davao de Oro in lieu of Brigadier General Luis Rex Bergante who will assume as the Assistant Division Commander of the 7th Infantry Division in Luzon. Brigadier General Bergante served with the Brigade for 1 year and 4 months that contributed to the sustainment of the conflict-resilient areas. Most notable achievement of Brigadier General Bergante as Brigade Commander is the total dismantling of the Weakened Guerrilla Front 33, which operates in the boundaries of Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte and the neutralization of four (4) Guerrilla Front secretaries.

Meanwhile, prior to his appointment as the new commander of the 1001st Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Durante served as the Group Commander of the Presidential Security Group, assigned to secure the President of the Republic of the Philippines. He is not new to the Brigade’s area of operations since he also sees action in the field being the commander of the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion from 2014 to 2016 which operates in Davao and Caraga Regions. A recipient of numerous awards both Administrative and Combat and a member of PMA Class of 1992.

During the ceremony, Durante encourages the Pag-Asa troopers to work harmoniously as a unit. “To the men and women of the 1001st Brigade, I look forward to work with you and bring a fresh perspective to our combined efforts. We shall work harmoniously as one, a team reinforcing the positive aspects of interpersonal relationships, synergizing efforts, altogether setting our goals, contemporizing our programs and plans on ending the insurgency and looking out for the common good of everyone,” Brigadier General Durante said.

1001st Brigade’s Area of Operations covers the province of Davao de Oro, portions of Agusan del Sur and parts of Davao del Norte.
