Col. Giovanni Franza, commander of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade (1102 Bde), identified the former bandits as Abral Samsidari and Marjin Basal both under ASG leader Radulan Sahiron; Alnajer Kaisal under sub-leader Alhabsi Misaya; Basir Lahan under sub-leader Apoh Mike; and Munil Jumarain and Padih Hamsari under Almujer Yadah.

The rebels yielded to the headquarters of the 1102nd Bde in Barangay Taganak last Tuesday.

So far, 19 ASG rebels have surrendered to the military in Sulu for the month of August alone, according to Franza.

“Our countrymen are feeling that the quality of life in the province is improving. We are happy that our brothers were enlightened and chose to go back to their community and to our government,” he said in Filipino.

The surrenderees also gave up a bushmaster rifle, two M1 garand rifles, and a hand grenade fragmentation.

The ASG is a notorious terrorist group engaged in bombings, kidnappings, assassinations, extortion, and ambushcades among others.

It is responsible for some of the most vicious terrorist attacks in the country, including the 2019 twin bombing at Mt. Carmel Cathedral in Jolo, Sulu which killed at least people and injured over 80 others.
