The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) received PHP5 million worth of financial assistance from lawmakers and various stakeholders for the victims of the July 4 C-130 aircraft crash in Patikul, Sulu.
AFP vice chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Erickson Gloria received the donation from ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap during a handover ceremony held at Silid Lapu-Lapu at AFP general headquarters, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Monday.
“This very timely financial assistance handed over today (Monday) will be judiciously distributed to support the AFP personnel’s families who were victims of the tragic accident,” Gloria said in a statement on behalf of AFP chief-of-staff, Gen. Cirilito Sobejana on Tuesday.
The amount came from the office of Yap, the office of Davao 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte, and the business sector in Benguet and Davao.
Around 60 percent of the financial assistance will be given to the families of 49 soldiers who perished in the mishap, while the remaining 40 percent will be allocated to the 47 wounded soldiers.
During the event, the AFP expressed its gratitude to the donors for their sympathies and support.
Gloria also presented Yap a plaque of appreciation in recognition of their compassion and benevolence.
“This great act of kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. From all the men and women of the Armed Forces, you truly have our utmost respect and admiration,” Gloria added.
