Garcia replaced Col. Harold Batara, who was designated Civil Military Operations officer of the AFP Central Command in Cebu City, Maj. Cenon Pancito, 3rd Infantry Division spokesman, said.
Maj. Gen. Eric Vinoya, 3ID commander, installed Garcia on June 15 as the 61IB commander, in a ceremony held at Camp Monteclaro in Barangay Igtuba, Miagao, Iloilo.
The 61IB used to be assigned in Negros Island.

In recognition of his meritorious service, Batara was awarded a Military Merit Medal, Pancito said.
Vinoya also challenged Garcia to go an extra mile in continuing the productive efforts of his predecessor, and to pursue fresh initiatives to widen the path towards achieving its mission in support to the campaign of the 3ID.*
