From Kalinaw News (Jun 20, 2021): Army’s 54th Infantry Battalion captures war materiel in a clash against terrorist CPP-NPA




CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela- A firefight ensued between the troops of 54th Infantry Battalion (54IB) and the terrorist Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in Barangay Abatan, Hungduan, Ifugao on June 19, 2021.

The troops responded to the information reported by the local populace about the presence of the terrorist CPP-NPA in the area and upon verification, the terrorist CPP-NPA fired upon the operating troops who immediately returned fire. The firefight lasted for about 30 minutes before the CTG scud leaving one M16 rifle, two improvised explosive devices, numerous subversive documents with high intelligence value, medical supplies and some personal belongings.

Major General Laurence E Mina, Commander of 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army commended the troops of 54IB for their immediate action. He likewise extended his gratitude to the residents for giving timely information regarding the presence of the terrorist group in their community. “Your commitment in helping the government to end the local communist armed conflict is a reflection of your desire to achieve lasting peace and progress in your community – for you and for the next generation to come.”

Meanwhile, it can be recalled that the Provincial Local Government of Ifugao pledged their commitment to end the local communist armed conflict by declaring the terrorist CPP-NPA as persona non-grata.
