CARMEN, BOHOL – Populace of two barangays in the municipality of Catigbian, Bohol took their oath of allegiance to the government to manifest their support to the government’s initiatives in line with the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict. Brgy Ambuan and Hagbuaya are far-flung barangays in Catigbian frequented by members of the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) who continually threaten and pester the way of life of the community. The oath was administered by their Municipal Mayor, Honorable Elizabeth Mandin, and was witnessed by the 47th Infantry Battalion and the Philippine National Police.

With unanimity, the said barangays have issued their resolutions declaring the members of the CPP-NPA-NDF as persona non grata as part of their peace initiatives to attain a more productive and developed barangay away from CTGs’ influence and intimidation. Mayor Mandin in her message emphasized that no one cares for the development and addresses the needs of the community but the government. “These people (CTGs) will only sabotage our future particularly the youth. Our initiative today as you take your oath is a big contribution to our campaign in sustaining the peace in your barangay. We should stop tolerating the atrocities committed by them. Instead, let us make ourselves an avenue for their return to the folds of law”, she stressed.

These barangays were previously considered as traditional routes of the CTGs where they can easily conduct recruitment and mass organizing. Apart from that, the CTGs also replenished their dwindling supplies by taking the harvest of the populace through fear without even showing empathy to the people’s hardships. Thus, the 47IB under the leadership of Lt. Col. Allan J Tabudlo deployed its Community Support Program (CSP) Team in collaboration with the PNP and Provincial Community Organizers to avert the oppressions caused by the CTGs and clear the barangay of their needless presence.

The purposive activity was highlighted by the burning of communist terrorist flags as a ceremony that shows the strong condemnation of the populace to the CPP-NPA-NDF and that they will no longer provide support in any way like physical, financial, and material contributions.

With the innumerable peace initiatives in the locality, more and more barangays are taking small yet unyielding steps to show that they are recognizing the efforts of the government in the pursuit of peace and that they are ready to join the fight against insurgency which brings misery to the Filipino people.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Army will continue to provide incessant support to these barangays and encourage the remaining CTGs to lay down their arms, avail the integration program offered by the government, and live a peaceful life with their families.
