Posted to Kalinaw News (Mar 29, 2021): Negros Oriental clash death toll rises to 10, two others apprehended

CAMP PERALTA, Jamindan Capiz –The death toll from the Guilhulngan City clash site is now at 10 following the discovery of two (2) more dead bodies of the CPP-NPA Terrorists while two (2) others were apprehended on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.

The troops of the 62nd Infantry Battalion were scouring the area after an almost three-hour exchange of fires with the communist-terrorist group in Barangay Trinidad when they found the cadavers.

They also apprehended two individuals who were identified as Jojo Sanico, a wounded NPA, and Julio Rabot, the owner of the nearby house where the former was given first aid. The two were placed under police custody.

Prior to this, on Tuesday noon of March 23, the 62IB encountered more or less 40 combined armed members of SDG Platoon and SYP Platoon of CN1, Komiteng Rehiyon – Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor (KR-NCBS) at the vicinity of Sitio Agit, Barangay Trinidad, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

Honorable Carlo Jorge Joan “Guido” Reyes, the City Mayor, commended the bravery of the government forces in preventing the heavily armed members of the NPA’s Leonardo Panaligan Command from casting terror.

“This incident displays how capable our government forces are in actual combat. It also shows the stark difference between the life of a rebel who continues to fight, and that of one who has surrendered to our Task Force ELCAC; one continues to live his life in peril, while the others are safe and sound and given full benefits,” Mayor Reyes said.

The unclaimed cadavers remain unidentified as of this writing.

For his part, Major General Eric Vinoya, Commander, 3rd Infantry Division, called on the CPP-NPA Terrorists in the area to identify their dead comrades for the family to claim and offer their last respects.

“They are human beings who have dignity and are just victims of your deceptive armed struggle. If you cannot give them a decent burial, you can still help by revealing their identity or informing their family and relatives about their death.”

Earlier, MGen Vinoya, urged the remaining communist-terrorists to surrender while they still have time. He warned them that the government forces will be unceasing in wiping the terrorists out of the Negrense communities; hence, it is the only option for them to avoid misfortune and death.
