Social media platforms Facebook and Twitter should also suspend accounts of communist leaders in the same way it did to those of US President Donald Trump for ensuing violence to his tweets and instigating the recent riot at the US Capitol.
This, according to the Legal Cooperation Cluster of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF ELCAC) in a statement Friday.
The NTF ELCAC cluster called on Facebook and Twitter platforms to apply with equal rigor the standards of civility to which it held the US President accountable, to the social media accounts of leaders and officials of the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).
“Like Trump, these cadres of terrorists, on a more regular, systematic, and coordinated manner, sow disorder and advocate violence, with a marked emphasis on recruiting the impressionable youth,” the statement said.
It added that unlike Trump, the CPP-NPA, and its political arm, the National Democratic Front (NDF) does not pretend to be at least democratic or peaceful.
“Theirs is an unconcealed call to arms, waging an unrepentant war of attrition against a democratic government,” NTF ELCAC said.
The CPP-NPA-NDF, it added, care little how much their empty war has a cost in lives and property.
“What matters to them, as long as their leaders are given their pulpits, is that their cult brings in fresh bodies to throw at the standing government,” it said.
Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, NTF ELCAC said, very well know that violence has no place in civil discourse or in any democracy.
“And speech that pulls the conversation towards violence is not protected speech. Those who resort to and advocate for violence do not deserve these platforms,” it added.
Facebook Inc. and Twitter banned the accounts of President Trump following the riot by his supporters who stormed the US Capitol on Jan. 6. The ban also applied to Facebook’s flagship blue app and Instagram.
Twitter, which blocked Trump’s account on Jan. 7, allowed him to tweet again but warned that he could be permanently banned if he continued to violate rules.
“Violence is what prompted them to cut off Trump. We hope this same base impulse prompts them to take down the CPP-NPA-NDF’s social media platform,” NTF ELCAC said.
The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
