SAN FERNANDO CITY, Dec. 18 (PIA) -- The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in La Union will conduct an anti-insurgency youth forum on Friday via Zoom application.

Jennilyne Role, PIA-1 regional director, said the forum is one of the advocacy activities of the Agency as the lead of the Strategic Communications Cluster of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC).

“The online activity is in line with President Rodrigo Roa Durterte’s Executive Order No. 70 (EO 70) which is a directive to finally end communist terrorism in the Philippines,” Role said.

She emphasized that for more than 50 years, the terrorist groups have been launching systematic attack against the government and mostly the youth are being recruited to join their armed struggle.

“The webinar will make the participants more aware of illegal recruitment especially among minors into the armed movement that is happening in the country,” she said.

Retired LTC Mario Jose Chico, Deputy Director for Operations of the NTF-ELCAC Secretariat, will serve as the key speaker.

He will discuss the salient features of the EO 70, insurgency situation in the Philippines, and OPLAN PAGBUBUNYAG.

Around 100 youth participants from the 20 local government units of La Union are expected to join the forum. (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union)
