TARLAC CITY, Nov. 4 (PIA) -- Armed Forces of the Philippines Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) remains on alert for the possible effects of Severe Tropical Storm “Siony” within its area of responsibility.Based on forecast from PAGASA, “Siony” will affect extreme northern luzon.
In his statement, NOLCOM Commander Major General Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr. emphasized that despite "Siony" being relatively weaker to Super Typhoon "Rolly,” it is essential to ensure the troops are on alert for service anytime and anywhere.
"There is no substitute to long drawn planning and preparation," he said.
A total of 249 Disaster Response Teams were activated and deployed across Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon and Cordillera as well as in the different maritime areas in West Philippine Sea, Batanes Group of Islands and Philippine Rise in the Pacific Ocean.

With this, Burgos reminded the troops to remain attentive during their humanitarian operations.
"Remain vigilant against any possible offensive actions from NPA terrorists who, historically speaking, have demonstrated blatant disrespect to internationally-accepted war conventions by attacking unarmed soldiers who were merely performing humanitarian missions in the past,” he advised.
Meanwhile, NOLCOM partnered with local government units and non-governmental organizations in the distribution of relief items to families who evacuated due to “Rolly”.
About 1,000 families from Bataan and Bulacan benefited in the first wave of assistance.
Moreover, NOLCOM’s Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine units assisted in the conduct of Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment in the typhoon-affected areas. (CLJD/GLSB-PIA)
