Government troops recovered war materials abandoned by a group of communist New People’s Army (NPA) terrorists following a firefight in Misamis Occidental, officials said Tuesday.

Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, the Army's 102nd Infantry Brigade commander, said Monday's firefight broke out after the troops of the 10th Infantry Battalion
chanced upon around 10 NPA rebels while on combat operations in Barangay San Lorenzo Ruiz, Sinacaban town.

Nicolas said the troops outmaneuvered the NPA rebels, forcing them to flee after 20 minutes of exchanging fire. No casualty was reported on the government side.

Government troops recovered three backpacks, a 40-milimeter grenade launcher, assorted medicines and personal belongings at the encounter site, he added.

Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, the Army's 1st Infantry Division commander, said the troops were in pursuit of the fleeing rebels.
