TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, July 27 (PIA) - - Two regular members of the New People's Army (NPA) and two members of the Militia ng Bayan recently surrendered to government troops following a stiff campaign against terrorism as part of the enforcement of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict(NTF-ELCAC) thrust of the present administration.

With the joint effort of the 95th Infantry Battalion under the 502nd Infantry Brigade of the 5th Infantry Division and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in San Mariano, Isabela, the rebels known as “ Romeo” and “Felix”, together with militiamen “Hector” and “Stihl” voluntarily laid their arms to the authorities.
Brigadier General Laurence E. Mina, acting commander of army's 5th ID, lauded the decision of the rebels to reintegrate themselves to the mainstream society, embrace the real peace and be part of community development.
“Ang pamunuan ng 5th ID kasama ang lokal na pamahalaan ay patuloy na nananawagan sa mga natitira pang mga rebelde na nasa kabundukan ng Cagayan Valley at Cordillera, kasama ang mga miyembro ng Milisyang Bayan at mga sumusuporta sa maling ideolohiya ng CPP-NPA-NDF, na magbalik-loob na sa ating pamahalaan. Hinihikayat namin kayong mamuhay sa diwa ng tunay na kapayapaan kasama ng inyong pamilya at mga mahal sa buhay, ” Mina said.
He also informed the rebel returnees of their benefits from the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) that will be processed and be awarded to them soon.
He said on July 9, a total of P935,000.00 was awarded to former rebels who have earlier surrendered to the government and decided to live normally and peacefully in the society. (BME/OTB/PIA-Cagayan)
