Posted to Kalinaw News (Mar 6, 2020): Army’s 1ID boost counter insurgency, terrorism capabilities (By 1st Infantry Division)

CAMP SANG-AN, Pulacan, Zamboanga del Sur – The 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division boost its counter insurgency and terrorism capabilities as it refilled and trained the 5th Infantry (Duty-Bound) Battalion today, March 5, 2020.

The 5IB before was a Civilian Armed Forces Government Unit (CAFGU) Battalion, managing Civilian Active Auxiliaries (CAAs) assigned in 1st Infantry Division.

The unit was unfilled last November 1, 2019 during the activation of the newly organized 1st Division CAA Affairs Unit, who now administered CAAs in the area of responsibility.

The 5IB will now become a manuever unit and will undergo organizational training in order to instill and develop camaraderie among troops who were taken from the different manuever battalions of 1ID.

The training will also enhance the skills of the unit in its war fighting capability and mold them their competency on counter insurgency and terrorism.

Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio, the 1ID Commander, challenged the unit to train more, be inspired and work with dedication and pride.

“This may be a new environment to you, but your individual task as a soldier has always been the most important thing to accomplish the mission and serve the constituents of 1ID”, added Ponio.

Ponio ended his message inspiring the troops and informing them the importance of being diverse, familiar with all the threats and their tactics.
