The Philippine Air Force (PAF), through its 355th Aviation Engineer Wing (355th AEW), has started the construction of temporary latrines for the evacuees in Batangas displaced by the eruption of Taal Volcano last January 12, a spokesperson said Thursday.
In a statement, Maj. Aristides Galang said the contingent from the 355th AEW deployed at the Fernando Air Base in Lipa City moved to Sto. Tomas town on January 19 to construct temporary latrines in the main evacuation center of the municipality.
The 355th AEW was deployed upon the instruction of ranking government and military officials who requested these sanitation facilities for the evacuees.
The construction of the temporary latrines is expected to be completed by Friday.
Galang said the plans and programs branch of 355th AEW formulated the design of the latrines.
He added that these simple, easy to build, inexpensive and environment-friendly temporary latrines will be replicated in other evacuation centers as ordered by Joint Task Group Taal once the project in Sto. Tomas is completed.
