CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Gamu, Isabela – The 5th Infantry (Star) Division spearheaded the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with two hospitals in Cagayan Valley and the conduct of Bloodletting Activity at 5ID Covered Court, Camp Melchor F Dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela on December 11, 2019.

During the signing of MOU, MGen Pablo M Lorenzo AFP represented the 5th Infantry (Star) Division while Dr. Marcos M Mallillin, Chief of Hospital represented Tuguegarao City People’s General Hospital and Dr. Diwata Grace F Bausa, Head Laboratory embodied the Southern Isabela Medical Center.

The Memorandum of Understanding aims to collect different blood types from Startroopers for altruistic reasons specially in aiding severely wounded soldiers in the frontline against the CTGs and other civilian entities that really are in need of blood. Additionally, this partnership reflects the support of both parties to the Republic Act 7719 known as the Voluntary Blood Donation Program which promotes the voluntary non-renumerated blood donation to provide adequate supply of safe blood in regulating blood banks.

With the theme: Dugong Bayani, Aming Ipinamamahagi”, a total of 238 Startroopers voluntarily donated blood to support the said MOU. The collaborative efforts of the Medical Teams from Tuguegarao City Peoples’ General Hospital, Southern Isabela Medical Center and Camp Melchor F Dela Cruz Station Hospital successfully collected 115 Bags of blood with a total of 57, 500 cc.

During the significant event, Major General Pablo M Lorenzo AFP, Commander, 5ID, commended the troops as well as the Medical Teams for their dedication in serving the people in many different ways. He also emphasized that medical institutions greatly aided the military forces in fostering local involvement in implementing comprehensive medical projects, and services that will alleviate health risks, poverty and distress which is among the root causes of insurgency.

“Our partnership is a progressive platform that commits us to work together more closely towards the pursuit of institutionalizing the EO70 commonly known as NTF- ELCAC. With this MOU, we are building joint actions in taking the necessary steps to implement the Whole of Nation Approach towards peace and progress. The timing is right, and we must seize the opportunity to harness the momentum to deliver medical assistance and services in the locality, end insurgency and embrace peace, progress and development in the society” said MGen Lorenzo.
