Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria “Joma” Sison expects the peace negotiations between the government and communist rebels to resume in January or February next year.

“We optimistically look forward to informal meetings be held within the second or third week of January and we’re hoping that the formal opening of the peace negotiations can be made within January or sometime in February,” Sison said in an interview with ANC’s Headstart on Monday.
“Formal meetings have to be held until a certain level of agreement that can be made for formalization,” he added.
Sison said the Government of the Republic Philippines (GRP) Panel for the Peace Talks and the CPP–New People’s Army-National Democratic Front panel have to reaffirm the agreements made since The Hague Joint Declaration in 1992
He added that President Duterte has to do away with all the presidential issuances that made the peace negotiations impossible.
“With the demands of the people, and so many peace talk advocates, so strong that even Duterte was so moved to call for the resumption of peace negotiations whereas before, he was sounding so tough he thinks he could exterminate the revolutionary movement,” Sison said.
The communist leader also said that all military plans of the government have failed to destroy the revolutionary movement.
“His armed minions keep on moving the deadline. One deadline has passed after another and I think his military and police boys are a failure in that regard.”
